If you’re in the mood for Italian food, Panighetti’s eatery Chico, located at 2670 esplanade, is a must try. After hearing many good reviews, a lunch guest and I stopped in the other day. When you enter the restaurant; the first thing you notice is the wide open floor plan and gorgeous interior.

We were greeted by a cheerful hostess and were seated right away. It was about 1:30pm and the lunch crowd was still lingering around eating and chatting. This place has a real comfortable feel.

After browsing over the lunch menu for a few minutes I decided on the Ravioli and my guest went with the lasagna.  Panighetti’s eatery has daily lunch specials and offer three different menus, brunch, lunch, dinner.

My plate of raviolis were covered in some very delicious tasting marinara sauce flanked by two mouth watering pieces of garlic cheese bread. The bread was a bit crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, perfect!

The size of the chunk lasagna they brought my friend was enormous. After his first bite he said, “I’ll be back here again”. My thoughts were similar. Needless to say he went home with a to-go box.

The price of the meals were right on track considering how good the food was. One of the most amazing things of the whole dining experience was that the wait time was so short and the food was so tasty.

If your in the mood for a big fat deli sammy, then i suggest shufflin on down to the Beach Hut Deli.

Located on the corner of West Second and Broadway, this is a pretty cool place that delivers an excellent deli sandwich.

Offering a small medium and large version of each masterpiece, on a recent visit i pulled the trigger on a classic Roast Beef & Cheese, medium sized, on a Dutch Crunch Roll.

My lunch date gobbled down the skinny dipper, consisting of hot Roast Beef with melted cheddar cheese, onions, mayo, served with au jus sauce on a sweet french roll. Her response after eating was, “damn that was a good lunch”, which i had to concur.

The staff is friendly and the wait time was pretty quick. Prices reflect the sandwich and if you’re lucky enough to find parking on the street, consider yourself lucky. Your best bet bet would be the  parking structure just a couple blocks away.

Check this place out, their sandwiches really are impressive. Scrumptious to say  the least.

restaurantchico money1 Ways to Save Money at Restaurants4 Easy Ways to Save Money at Restaurants (And Not by Ordering Less!)

By Jessica K

I am going to give you 4 ways to save tons of money at restaurants. I hope that you will do all 4 because honestly, I save so much money each way, that I can’t imagine not doing it.

1. Restaurant.com Gift Certificates

At Restaurant.com you can buy discounted gift certificates to great restaurants. Once a month these go on sale for $1-$2 each, and that’s where the real savings are! You can save more than 50% with these gift certificates and they are really easy to use.

2. Sign Up for Upromise.

Upromise is a program meant for saving money for college; it’s run by Sallie Mae. So, it’s a government sponsored program and perfectly legit. However, you don’t have to save the money for college. You can simply sign up and they will send you a check when you request it.

The Upromise program does not cost anything. Upromise has partnered with hundreds of companies, retailers, travel sites and local restaurants, so that you can earn basically a “rebate” of a percentage of each qualifying purchase you make. This “rebate” is deposited in your Upromise account.

There are other ways to save money in your Upromise account; you can save e-coupons to your grocery or drugstore cards and then when you buy select items, the money will be deposited in your account.

Also, you can use Upromise to save money when you online shop; you will find a massive list of online retailers who give you cash back. What a great way to save for college if you have kids, plan on having kids, or for something like an unexpected medical expense!

3. Sign up for Swagbucks.

Swagbucks is also a must do. Swagbucks is a search engine, like Google. When you use the Swagbucks homepage to search, or the Swagbucks toolbar you earn “bucks” for your searches. You can redeem these bucks for Amazon gift cards, Restaurant.com gift cards, iTunes gift cards, and so much more.

The Amazon gift cards are 450 swagbucks and by using the toolbar you’ll probably earn between 30 and 50 swagbucks a day. This means that by using Swagbucks for search, you will earn $5 to Amazon or a $25 gift certificate to Restaurant.com every 9 days! Why wouldn’t you want to earn gift cards just for searching the web!

4. Group buying sites:

There are tons of them now but the main group buying sites are Groupon and Living Social. If you sign up to receive daily emails from these sites you will be notified when there is a restaurant deal. Most of the times these deals are for 50% or more off!

Head over to http://eat2winraleigh.com for instructions on how to sign up for all these deals, to calculate how much you can save and for more easy ways to save lots of money at restaurants.

chef 225x300 What makes Me a Great Food Critic?

In my beginning post i called myself a food critic, or at least i said i wrote like one while reviewing and documenting local restaurants. I wrote as if i were one of those arrogant food critics who acts like they walk on water!

Please excuse my way of calling out the food critics, i just don’t like when someone tells me they know what is gratifying to me more than i do.

Actually, I consider myself a food writer more than i do a food critic.

At Restaurants Chico  my mission is to reach out to people while showing
them great places to eat. Critics worry more about how their reviews read
rather than how the actual food taste that their writing about.

Have you ever checked out the way a film critic will critique a certain film
by calling it every low down name in the book, then come to find out it’s a great movie, even setting box office records. Or, you went and seen a movie because a critic recommended it, and it was so boring you feel asleep halfway through.

I don’t want to be talking just to be talking, in other words i plan on giving you solid information on dining out in Chico.

I like to eat in places that have great food, courteous, quick customer service, and fair prices. The ambiance of a place is an important factor of course, and its always nice to have a comfortable atmosphere, but I have eaten at some little holes in the wall around Chico that the decor was nothing to write home about but the food sure was.

Anyways, I’m just your average guy who has spent many years dining out in our city and have ran across quite a few places to get a good meal. I sure wish i had a site like this back when i was looking for a good place dine out. i think that would be worth something, right?

So, nahh, i’m not a food critic. i like to write about my dining adventures and share them with others.. Thanks for stopping by!

sicilian cafe 300x158 My First Recommendation: Sicilian Cafe

Ok, so if you can set aside the small rooms and
the limited parking on the side, you are
in for a real treat!

I suggest calling for reservations first, as this
place gets filled up fast, especially on Friday
and Saturday nights.

My girlfriend took me here for my birthday, we
were seated right away and the staff was very polite.

The atmosphere has to be experienced
to get the full effects. For being such
a small restaurant, you get the feeling you have
the room all to yourself.

Yes, the city has certainly grown up around this
local business, and they sit on a very busy street.
But if you can dodge the kids riding their skate boards
down the street, and you can find a place to park, your
taste buds will fall in love with this place.

I had one of the best meals ever this night. It
came in the form of Alfredo and prawns.

Now, I’ve never been a big fan of Pasta, but this
was an excellent feast. The Alfredo sauce had
perfect consistency and the prawns were huge!,
juicy and flavorful as well. Along with a cold glass
of ice water and a small glass of wine, this was
one birthday I will remember for quite awhile.

A little pricey, and a bit of a wait, but nothing you
wouldn’t expect from the quality you receive.

Everything we tried there was quite tasty, even
the Pasta Primavera that my girlfriend ordered was a hit.
But the Alfredo and Prawns was definitely something
to remember so you might want to give it a try.

Located in the heart of Chico, this wonderful
little spot should be on your top 10 restaurants
to visit when you’re in the Chico area.
